The Seattle Seahawks will be without their starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Seahawks head coach Mike McDonald announced Wednesday that Darnold has been sidelined and that Drew Lock will handle duties under center as they look to build on their Week 1 win over the New England Patriots.
McDonald added that Seattle does not expect to place Darnold on injured reserve.
The team announced Monday that Darnold has a “very unique soft tissue injury” to his butt and there is no timeline for his return.
Darnold was injured on Seattle’s opening series against the Patriots. He was sacked by Dre’Mont Jones and limped off the field.
Lock replaced him and ran 16-of-22 for 187 yards and a touchdown as the Seahawks cruised to a 13–10 victory.
Darnold, 29, didn’t miss a game last season while leading the Seahawks to a Super Bowl title. He threw for 4,048 yards with 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, and Seattle won a franchise-record 14 games.
