At least 20 people have died after a fire broke out on a foreign-flagged cargo ship docked at a port in eastern China, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
Of the 42 people on board, 17 were evacuated, five of whom are in stable condition in hospital, CCTV reported.
President Xi Jinping earlier called for an “all-out” search and rescue effort, while Prime Minister Li Qiang called for the rescue of those trapped, stressing the need to “prevent secondary disasters.”
The ship was undergoing maintenance at a shipyard in the city of Qingdao when the fire broke out around 11:15 local time (0315 GMT).
According to CCTV, it was extinguished just over three hours later.
