Jose Theodore: Don’t expect to see the same Jakub Dobes in the playoffs – Dose.ca

After a superb performance in the playoffs and a new contract, it is only natural that expectations will be higher for Jakub Dobes this season.

Unless there is a major change, he will be the Canadiens’ No. 1 goalie early in the season and his workload will be much heavier than it has been in recent seasons.

The pressure on Dobs will be enormous. However, Jose Theodore believes we shouldn’t expect to see the same Dobes we saw during the playoffs. That’s what he explained Thursday on 98.5 Sports.

Theodore says he faced a similar situation when he became the Canadiens’ No. 1 goalie. He went through a difficult period because there were too many distractions around him.

The best advice he could give Dobs was to remain disciplined and try to minimize distractions. Unfortunately, it is impossible to eliminate all distractions in Montreal.

While he doesn’t expect to see the same Dobs as he did last playoff season, Theodore is confident the young goalie will have a great season in goal for the Habs.

Dobs’ success didn’t come out of nowhere in the playoffs. He had been playing like an elite goalie for several weeks leading up to the spring tournament.

This shows that his success will likely not be an overnight event, but it will be important for him to learn to cope with the added pressure.

Theodore also took the time to comment on the situation with the other Canadiens goalies. In his opinion, Samuel Montembault’s time in Montreal had come to an end. He doesn’t believe the Quebec native has anything to offer the team.

That means he expects the Dobs-Fowler tandem to start the season. This isn’t far-fetched, as the duo finished last season with the Habs.

In a nutshell

– Logical prediction.

– AJ Brown will miss several games.

– It’s very far away.
