Oracle may be preparing for another major round of job cuts, with between 7,000 and 10,000 positions reportedly at risk worldwide. This could also impact employees in India, although there is no clarity yet on how many jobs may be affected.
The possible layoffs come at a difficult time for Oracle employees. The company has already significantly reduced its workforce over the past year, although it continues to invest in cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
Oracle is reported to be planning further global job cuts, potentially affecting 7,000–10,000 positions, including in India, while investing heavily in cloud and artificial intelligence; this follows the recent reduction of 21,000 staff.

People familiar with the situation told Moneycontrol that Oracle is asking teams to look for ways to cut costs. If layoffs do occur, they may affect multiple departments rather than being limited to just one division.
September could be a key month for Oracle employees
This month, there has been growing discussion among employees about possible layoffs.
Previously, September 1 was considered a possible date for announcements. September 15 is another date being discussed within the company.
But nothing has been decided yet. There is no confirmed timeline for layoffs, nor is there a definitive number of employees who may be affected. Some managers are said to still be waiting for clarity on which positions, if any, could be cut.
For Indian Oracle employees, the uncertainty can be especially significant. India has a strong presence across the company’s engineering, technology, cloud and support divisions.
Figures currently being discussed internally suggest between 7,000 and 10,000 jobs could be affected worldwide. These numbers have not been confirmed by Oracle.
The reported cuts will come alongside significant reductions in Oracle’s workforce over the past year.
The company had about 141,000 full-time employees at the end of May 2026, up from about 162,000 a year earlier. This is a reduction of approximately 21,000 employees in just 12 months.
Oracle also acknowledged that AI could play a role in reducing its workforce.
In its annual report, the company said that the introduction of artificial intelligence technologies in its operations has led and may continue to result in a reduction in the workforce.
Why is Oracle cutting jobs while spending heavily on AI?
The potential layoffs come at an interesting time for Oracle.
The company is spending heavily to expand the capacity of its data centers and cloud business as demand for artificial intelligence computing continues to grow.
Simply put, Oracle is investing more in the infrastructure needed to compete in the artificial intelligence boom while looking for ways to cut costs in other parts of the business.
This restructuring has already come at a significant cost. Oracle spent about $1.8 billion on severance and other restructuring costs during the year, according to Oracle’s annual report.
The company also warned that the organizational changes could disrupt operations and lead to shortages of certain specialized roles.
At this time, reports of new layoffs remain unconfirmed. Oracle did not announce a new round of cuts and did not immediately comment on the latest reports.
The timing is also important as Oracle plans to announce its next quarterly results on September 11th.
If the announced cuts continue, they will add to a series of staff cuts at Oracle as the company continues to shift its focus toward cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
