The National Film Awards ceremony will be held outside Delhi for the first time in its 72-year history. The 72nd edition of the awards will be held in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat on September 22 and President Draupadi Murmu is scheduled to present the awards, officials said on Monday.

The change of venue marks a departure from a long-standing tradition. The first National Awards were presented in 1954 at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi, where the ceremony was held several times over the years. This year, the awards will be presented at Ekta Nagar, formerly known as Kevadia.
Ekta Nagar houses the Statue of Unity, the tallest statue in the world, dedicated to Sardar Vallabhai Patel. The 597 feet tall monument was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018.
Article 370 leads this year’s winners
The winners of the 72nd National Film Awards were announced in July. Article 370 recognized as best feature film. The film’s leading lady Yami Gautam was also named Best Actress for her performance.
Malayalam superstar Mammootty and Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan will share the Best Actor award. Mammootty received acclaim for his performance in Brahmayugamand Aaryan won for his role in Champion Chandu.
Actor and director Randeep Hooda also received recognition at this year’s awards. He was named best debut director Swatantria Veer Savarkarhis directorial debut based on the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
Kalki 2898 AD e. and Captain Miller among the big winners
Nag Ashwin’s Telugu sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD will receive the award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
Meanwhile Tamil movie Captain MillerThe film, directed by Arun Matheswaran and starring Dhanush, was named the best feature film promoting national, social and environmental values.
The September 22 ceremony is expected to bring together some of the year’s biggest winners as the National Film Awards opens a new chapter by moving the prestigious event outside Delhi for the first time.
