Focus on Logistics Policy at PM GatiShakti Seminar for North Eastern States

A two-day regional workshop on the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, organized by the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, concluded here on Saturday with over 140 officials and industry representatives participating in the meeting.

The topic of the second day was National Logistics Policy.

States including Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura have given presentations on their logistics policies, she said.

DPITT Special Secretary (Logistics) Sumita Davra said these workshops promote greater acceptance of the Prime Minister’s National Master Plan Gati Shakti and National Logistics Policy in states and union territories (UTs) in the spirit of cooperative federalism.

Such initiatives bring more energy and create synergy among various stakeholders, leading to mutual learning between states or UTs and central ministries or departments, she said.

On the first day, the workshop focused on ways to strengthen the northeast corridor with adequate multimodal connectivity to economic hubs and port ports.

During the day, Daura noted that the Assam Logistics and Warehousing Policy 2022 aims to transform the state into a regional logistics hub through the development of modern infrastructure by stimulating private investment, promoting sustainability and climate change resilience in the region, and greater inclusive participation in economic activities, she said.

The policy will provide employment opportunities to approximately 15,000 people in the logistics sector, Davra added.

Manipur Integrated Logistics Policy 2022 showcased its plan to enhance ease of doing business through trade facilitation through active stakeholder participation, while the presentation in Mizoram laid out a roadmap including local connectivity of various economic zones, formation of regulatory framework, development of integrated logistics information system, among others.

The Tripura policy has laid special emphasis on the establishment of aggregation hubs as storage centers for perishable and non-perishable goods, development of cargo terminals and driver recreation facilities with emphasis on key sectors such as tea, rubber, agricultural and allied products, health and education, and skill development.
