Five people were killed and dozens were injured after a tourist bus crashed in the southeastern Swiss Alps., police say.
A Dutch tourist bus crashed into a safety barrier at a road works site, went off the road and overturned between Such and Zernes in the Grisons region late on Thursday.
Swiss police said on Friday that the identity of the deceased had not yet been established.
They added that the remaining 40 people on board the bus, whose injuries ranged from serious to minor, were taken to hospitals by rescue helicopters and ambulance crews.
The coach reportedly left the Netherlands on Monday and was on a day trip to Switzerland from Austria when the accident occurred.
Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten said his thoughts went out to everyone involved, while King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima said their hearts went out to everyone affected by “this great tragedy.”
Swiss President Guy Parmelin wrote on X that he was “deeply shocked” by the incident and expressed “sincere condolences” to the families of the victims.
