Pakistan captain Fatima Sana has been sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for gesticulating during an Asia Cup group match against India last week.
Sana was fined 10 percent of her match fee by the ICC on Monday, two days after India handed Pakistan a record T20 defeat in the regional tournament.

The incident occurred after Sana caught and bowled Shafali Verma in the second over and pointed towards the pavilion. Verma scored 12 runs from six balls as India beat Pakistan by seven wickets to remain unbeaten in the competition.
Sana admitted to her offense, which violated Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct regarding “the use of expressions, actions or gestures that are degrading or likely to provoke an aggressive reaction from the batter when being dismissed.”
In addition, one demerit point was added to her disciplinary fine for a second offense within 24 months. The previous incident took place during a T20I match against Ireland in August 2025.
According to the ICC Code of Conduct, Level 1 violations carry a minimum penalty of a formal reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 percent of the player’s match fee and one or two penalty points.
India reached the semi-finals with six points from three matches. Pakistan are hoping for a win over Hong Kong on Monday.
The world champions, who are over 50, have won a record seven Asian Cup titles, most recently in 2022.
Pakistan have never won the title and have finished second to neighboring India twice – in 2012 and 2016.
Sana was named captain of Pakistan in October 2024, becoming the youngest player to captain the women’s cricket team at the age of 22.
