Pakistan captain Fatima Sana was fined 10 per cent of her match fee and given one demerit point for violating the ICC Code of Conduct during the Women’s Asia Cup match against India.Pakistan lost their Group A match by seven wickets at the Dubai International Stadium on Saturday.The International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Monday that Fatima had violated Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.The rule concerns “the use of language, actions or gestures that are degrading or likely to provoke an aggressive reaction on the part of the batter when he/she is dismissed during an international match.”
Gesture after Shafali’s dismissal
The incident occurred during the final ball of the second over of India’s 56-run chase.Fatima has dismissed India opener Shafali Verma due to dismissal. Taking the catch, the Pakistan captain pointed towards the pavilion.This gesture led to charges of violating the Code of Conduct.
Second crime in 24 months
This is Fatima’s second crime in 24 months. Her latest penalty brought her total to two.Her previous penalty point came during Pakistan’s opening T20 International against Ireland in Dublin on August 6, 2025.“Fatima admitted the offense and agreed to the sanction proposed by Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing,” the ICC further stated.The charges were laid by on-field umpires Nimali Perera and Shatira Jakir Jesi, third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Rabab Ahsan.Level 1 violations carry a minimum penalty of a formal reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 percent of the player’s match fee. Players may also receive one or two penalty points.
Fatima available for the match in Hong Kong
Despite the penalty, Fatima will be able to lead Pakistan in their next Women’s Asian Cup match against Hong Kong (China) on Tuesday.Pakistan need a win to reach the semi-finals.Seven-time champions India and defending champions Sri Lanka have already secured their places in the last four.
