The Premier League has announced Manchester City match dates covering the Christmas period, with Manchester United complaining about the timing of dividend payments. United were among a number of English top-flight teams to ask officials to make their Christmas announcement to allow fans to better plan matches. While all Premier League matches are played on a Saturday at 3pm by default, the league and broadcasters reserve the right to make changes depending on which matches they wish to broadcast. However, this can sometimes prove problematic as Newcastle United fans expressed their disappointment at having to travel 492 miles to watch their club play against the Reds at 8pm on Boxing Day last year.
United have reportedly held meetings with Premier League officials along with the Football Supporters Association, urging chiefs to announce the holiday period schedule early so fans can book travel and accommodation in advance. The Football Supporters’ Association was also incredibly critical of the League’s decision on the timing of the United v Newcastle match just over 12 months ago, given that it was the longest away day of the game week.
