
Ooty: In a crackdown on errant tourist taxi operators in the Nilgiris, regional transport department officials have impounded 10 tourist taxis for non-payment of taxes and violation of tourist taxi operating norms in the Nilgiris.
While Nilgiris, a star tourist destination, has witnessed the operation of hundreds of tourist taxis and tourist vehicles, the transport department has laid down several rules and regulations for their operation to ensure tourist safety.
In recent raids on tourist taxis and tourist vehicles, transport department officials seized 10 tourist taxis that were being operated without paying the appropriate taxes and not following other norms for operating tourist taxis in the Nilgiris.
Transport department officials imposed a fine of 500,000 rubles. 1.38 lakh for defective tourist vehicles. Transport department officials said these kinds of surprise raids will continue in the future to book tourist taxis operated without following norms.
