The BCCI has imposed a two-year ban on the Bengal cricketer for allegedly misrepresenting his age, weeks after he was selected in the India U-19 squad for the upcoming series against Australia.
The BCCI has banned Bengal cricketer Rohit Yadav for two years for alleged age misrepresentation, as evidenced by discrepancies in his multiple birth certificates and Aadhaar records. The action follows his selection for the U-19 squad after a review revealed discrepancies in his birth years.
Bengal all-rounder Rohit Yadav, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, has already represented Team India during the U-19 team’s tour to Sri Lanka, where he took six wickets and also helped the team win the last Test match.
“He has been suspended for two years,” a BCCI source said.
Age differences are discovered during document verification
Rohit has also featured in India U-19 home one-day and multi-day games against Australia U-19 in Rajkot and Ahmedabad later this month.
The age difference came to light when his documents were checked in Sri Lanka.
Rohit has three birth certificates showing different years of birth – 2007, 2009 and 2010, making him ineligible to play age-group cricket. There were also discrepancies in his Aadhaar records.
When he was registered with the Bengal Cricket Association, his year of birth was recorded as 2007. His Aadhaar records subsequently showed 2006 in updates in 2017 and 2020, which was changed to 2009 in 2021.
The CAB had previously not allowed Rohit into its junior teams due to inconsistencies and subsequently informed the BCCI.
The board has now banned him from domestic cricket for two years and has informed all state associations associated with him.
CAB declares 62 cricketers ineligible
Rohit is among the 62 players deemed ineligible by the CAB for registration or transfer for any tournament in the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons due to discrepancies in documentation and age differences.
The list also includes former India Under-19 World Cup winner Ravi Kumar and all-rounder Vishal Bhatti, who has played three first-class matches and two List A matches.
Ravi, a key member of the Indian team that won the Under-19 World Cup in 2022, was singled out for the 45-month age difference in CAB records.
Taking a Closer Look at Player Records
The CAB also found significant discrepancies between players in several other age groups, with some records showing differences of several years.
The action is part of a broader review by the association of player records and age records that have been uploaded to its website.
