Another meteor shower will arrive later in November, with the Leonids expected to peak around November 17th.
The Leonids can travel at speeds of about 70 km per second upon entering Earth’s atmosphere, making them among the fastest meteors visible from Earth.
Under ideal dark sky conditions, between 10 and 15 Leonids per hour can be seen at the shower’s peak, although the actual number will depend on weather, light pollution and the brightness of the Moon.
They get their name from the constellation Leo, from which the meteors seem to emanate.
The best time to observe is after midnight and before dawn, when Leo is higher in the sky.
