Keeping track of provident fund and pension announcements may become easier for millions of EPFO subscribers as the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) will launch an official WhatsApp channel.
The new channel is intended as an additional communication platform where EPFO can share announcements, scheme information and other important updates with members and pensioners.
The move comes as the pension fund continues to expand its digital presence. EPFO already provides services through its member portal and UMANG app and also uses platforms like X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and LinkedIn to connect with subscribers.
How to find the official EPFO channel
Members can access the EPFO channel through the Updates section of WhatsApp. They can select ‘Channels’, use the search option and search for a verified EPFO account before clicking ‘Subscribe’.
Users can also access the channel through the direct link provided by EPFO or scan the QR code posted on the organization’s verified social media accounts.
Following the channel does not require members to share their UAN, password, bank details or other personal information.
What will EPFO share on WhatsApp?
The channel is primarily intended for broadcasting information, and not for managing individual PF accounts.
Members can expect updates regarding EPFO schemes, policy announcements, service developments and other information relevant to provident fund and pension fund subscribers.
For people who do not regularly visit the EPFO website or social media pages, the channel can provide a more direct way of receiving such announcements.
PF balance and claims still need official services
The WhatsApp channel should not be confused with replacing EPFO account management platforms.
Members who need to access their UAN account, check account-specific information or use other PF online services will continue to rely on the official member portal of EPFO and UMANG. The current EPFO membership portal lists services including UAN related services and application status tracking.
The EPFO had also previously operated WhatsApp helplines for member queries and grievance-related assistance. The annual report said the organization used WhatsApp and other social media to respond to queries from subscribers.
EPFO warns members against scams
EPFO’s expanding digital presence also makes it important for members to distinguish between official communications and fraudulent communications.
EPFO expressly warns subscribers not to share their UAN, password, Aadhaar, PAN, bank account details or OTP with anyone. The organization says it does not solicit such information from members through calls, messages, WhatsApp or social media.
Therefore, for members, the new WhatsApp channel is best treated as an official information channel while account access and transactions should continue to be done through authorized EPFO platforms.
