Four Indian players were hit by stones from the crowd during India’s one-day match against Pakistan in Karachi. The violence prompted India captain Sachin Tendulkar to escort his players off the field.
Tendulkar refused to continue playing when Debashish Mohanty became the fourth player to be hit while playing on the boundary. India refused to take part in the operation, citing security concerns.
“I am more concerned about the safety of my players; I cannot continue playing in these circumstances,” Tendulkar told Sri Lankan match referee Ranjan Madugalla.
Madugalle agreed to stop play, reducing Pakistan’s innings to 265 for four after 47.2 overs.

India’s top bowler Rajesh Chauhan and Nilesh Kulkarni took two wickets each.
India are chasing a target of 266 for 6 in 46.3 overs – due to crowd issues, a revised target of 266 in 47 overs – with top scorer Sourav Ganguly hitting 89 off 96 balls, including 11 fours.
Vinod Kambli scored 53 off 76 balls, including 7 fours, Robin Singh scored 31 off 32 balls, including one six and a four.
Saba Karim scored 26 off 32 balls, including 2 fours, while Sachin Tendulkar scored 21 off 18 balls, containing 2 fours and a six.
