How Celine Dion’s bodyguards keep her safe while giving her the freedom to interact with fans

Before anyone gets angry and misinterprets my words because reading comprehension is at an all-time low and no one understands the nuances (and schools are open today!), I’m not saying that Celine Dion’s team has anything to complain about. They are no doubt pleased to see Celine being Celine again. This also means that their work is back to where it was when she was in Paris before her diagnosis – especially regarding her bodyguards.

When the person you’re guarding takes as long as Celine to meet fans and get close to fans, security has to be much more vigilant…while also allowing Celine to interact with the people she wants to interact with. It’s a fine balance. Celine doesn’t want to be inaccessible. But their task is to ensure her safety. The fastest way to escape is to put a wall between her and the audience. When she insists that the wall disappear, the goal is to respect her wishes without compromising her mental and physical health.

I wasn’t super online over the long weekend, but when I checked social media every now and then, all I saw was Celine, before work and after work, interacting with fans – singing with them, praying with them, talking to them, playing rock, paper, scissors with them, LOL, and introducing her dog to them, too LOL.

Celine is already rehearsing for a series of shows that begin this weekend. And during rehearsals for these shows, she puts on shows outside her hotel at least twice a day. She hasn’t stopped entertaining since she arrived in France! Would you blame her security if they said, “Woman, can we get in and out of the hotel without stopping today?!” I wouldn’t. But they wouldn’t. Apparently they’ve been given a playbook and they’re following it, God bless them, because that’s how she wants to live.

Here’s an example, just today, when she gets into the car, she climbs up to wave. As you can see, her bodyguard follows her, holding her back so she doesn’t fall… but also… crouches down so he’s not in the frame, so he’s not part of the moment she’s sharing with people.

Notice that at one point he thinks she’s finished – and he’s wrong, she never finishes. But he gets up in a half-squat and holds it while he finds out if she’s ready to go down, and then he goes down again because she keeps going.

Celine is well taken care of, as she should be. And we appreciate a hard-working team that works with it rather than restricting it.
