The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has issued a public health alert regarding two unapproved cosmetic products sold in India.
The products mentioned in the alert are Chandni Whitening Cream and Goree Beauty Cream, both of which state that they are made in Pakistan.
India’s CDSCO has warned the public about Chandni whitening cream and Goree beauty cream sold in India, warning that they contain heavy metals exceeding permissible limits, which pose a health hazard, and advising consumers not to buy or use them.
The medicines regulator has warned that the creams contain heavy metals above permissible limits. Prolonged or unsafe use of products containing excessive amounts of heavy metals can have toxic effects and pose serious health risks.
CDSCO has asked consumers not to purchase or use either of the two creams. Those who have already purchased them are also advised not to use them.
The regulator said cosmetics sold in India must meet set safety standards. Their production and import are regulated by the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and the Cosmetics Rules 2020.
Cosmetics manufactured in India for sale must be manufactured under a valid license issued by the Government Licensing Authority. Imported cosmetics must be registered with the Central Licensing Authority.

What consumers should check
CDSCO also urged people to be careful when purchasing cosmetic products and check the information provided on the packaging.
Consumers should pay attention to details such as production license number, manufacturer’s name and details, batch number, production date and expiration date.
In the case of imported cosmetics, the product must also have the required registration number.
The regulator has urged consumers to stick to approved cosmetic products and avoid Chandni whitening cream and Goree cosmetic cream, as well as products with similar names.
