Low-income working families not only struggle to pay their bills, but are also left out of programs such as free school meals and subsidized holiday clubs, White said.
“When I talk to families, the cost of living continues to rise,” she says.
“Everything has become more expensive over the years.
“But we don’t earn enough. Families just can’t keep up.”
White says that while the charity focuses on families receiving benefits, staff also support families who are “just above the threshold to qualify for”.
“They suffered a lot,” she says.
“They work and don’t get help from anywhere.
“One parent said she sends her child to a breakfast club, which costs £6 a day, so she can go to work.
“It comes at a cost for working families.”
