Statistics Canada says the newly opened Gordie Howe International Bridge saw more than 270,000 crossings in its first full month of operation.
The federal agency says the bridge accounted for about 135,000 return trips by Canadian residents and 101,000 trips by U.S. residents in August.
It also said 34,800 trucks crossed the bridge last month.
The bridge connecting Windsor and Detroit opened to traffic on July 27 after months of delays and tension involving US President Donald Trump.
StatCan reports that the other two major border crossings in Windsor, the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, saw 348,000 inbound trips by Canadian and U.S. residents in August, down more than 35 percent from the same period in 2025.
The number of Canadians crossing the border has dropped significantly since Trump launched a trade war with Canada at the start of his second term last year.
New data from StatCan shows that may be changing as return trips by Canadians from the United States by car and plane totaled 2.6 million in August, up nearly nine per cent from the same period last year.
However, this number remains down from August 2024, when Canadians took more than 3.3 million trips to the United States.
