Actress Nafisa Ali Sodhi on Monday said she has been given “targeted therapy” after a new scan showed ovarian cancer had spread to her liver. The 69-year-old actress, who has been open about her battle with cancer in her social media posts, shared the new health update from her hospital bed. “My treatment protocol has changed and I am now on targeted therapy… I am fighting the good fight. Thank you for always maintaining my supportive energy.
“Simply put, the PET/CT scan suggests that the ovarian/peritoneal cancer has progressed with new deposits on the surface of the liver,” Nafisa, who lives in Goa, shared on Instagram, alongside a photo of herself from her hospital bed. Targeted therapies treat cancer by targeting specific mutations that cause changes in cancer cells, according to the American Cancer Society. It is also used to stop and slow down cancer cells.
The Junoon star first shared her cancer diagnosis in 2018 and revealed that she was battling stage three peritoneal and ovarian cancer. In 2019, she underwent major surgery. However, in 2025, the actor announced that her cancer had returned and she was resuming chemotherapy.
“Today begins a new chapter in my journey. I had a PET scan yesterday…so back to chemo since surgery is not an option and it is stage 4 cancer. Trust me… I love life,” she wrote in the post. The actress continues her work in cinema, despite health problems. In recent years, she has starred in films such as Max Min and Meowzaki and Uunchai.
Former Miss India, Nafisa made her film debut in Shyam Benegal’s Junoon opposite Shashi Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah. Her other leading roles in films include Major Saab, Bewafaa, Life… in a Metro, Guzaarish, Yamla Pagla Deewana and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3.
