Bengaluru City Police has launched ‘Project Khushi’, a structured health and wellness program aimed at supporting the long-term physical and mental well-being of police officers, Home Minister Priyank Kharge said on Tuesday.

The program will initially be implemented at the Electronics Police Department, which will employ approximately 600 police officers. Each batch will undergo a three-month program including medical examinations, expert-led consultations and digital engagement activities.

The initiative will focus on preventive health care, nutrition, physical activity, quality sleep and stress management, as well as other lifestyle factors critical to the long-term well-being of police officers.

Pilot program shows encouraging results

According to the Home Secretary, an earlier pilot program under Project Khushi has yielded encouraging results. About 61% of participants recorded a decrease in blood sugar levels, and 70% corrected their vitamin B12 deficiency. Additionally, 59% of participants lost weight.

Mr Kharge said the results show that sustainable and evidence-based health interventions can have a positive impact on the wellbeing of police officers.

Partnerships with healthcare and corporate organizations

“Our police officers work every day under challenging and stressful conditions to keep our communities safe. It is vital that their health remains a constant focus. Healthy police officers are the foundation of an effective and resilient policing system,” Mr Harge said.

Along with physical health, mental well-being, healthy lifestyle and stress management need to be given equal importance, he added.
