There’s not much going on in the NHL this time of year.
Hockey fans were already surprised by the Luke Evangelista trade. Apart from this trade, things have been pretty quiet over the last two months, which is to be expected.
However, there are still some unfinished business and Shane Wright is one of them.
The Seattle Kraken forward has been at the center of several trade rumors and is expected to change teams at some point this season, if not before it begins.
More recently on Sekeres and price podcast, David Pagnotta was a guest and discussed Wright’s situation in Seattle.
According to a well-known insider, Kraken will not want to include him in its team. package just to trade him for a young player. Instead, they would prefer him to be the centerpiece of a deal to acquire a big-name player.
If Wright is the centerpiece of a big name deal, let’s be honest: the player in question isn’t going to be that big of a fish.
Wright doesn’t have a ton of value on the market even though he’s still young (22 years old), but he’s slowly establishing himself as a top-six player in the NHL.
In his first full season in 2024–25, he scored an impressive 44 points in 79 games. However, things have been much tougher this season, with just 27 points in 74 games.
It would be quite surprising if Kraken were able to bring in a big name player (like Dylan Larkin, although he doesn’t have Kraken on his trade block) in exchange for Wright.
Let’s see if the Krakens can get what they want.
It would be surprising if Quinn Hughes signed a long-term contract extension.
The Quinn Hughes situation is also causing a lot of noise in the NHL.
He’s one of the NHL’s top defensemen and is entering the final year of a six-year contract that pays him $7.85 million per season.
Many are waiting to see what his contract extension will look like if he decides to stay with the Minnesota Wild.
ESPN’s Greg Wyszynski believes he won’t sign a long-term deal because his brother Jack Hughes’ contract expires in 2030.

It’s easy to draw parallels between Quinn Hughes and his Devils brothers.
It is understood that if Quinn Hughes extends his contract with the Wild, it will be for three years, so he could become an unrestricted free agent at the same time as his brother Jack.
However, the most plausible scenario in my opinion is still that he spends the entire season in Minnesota without renewing his contract, and therefore could sign with the Devils on July 1st.
For that to happen, the Devils will need to create cap space to ensure they can meet Quinn’s new contract, which will likely be one of the highest in the entire NHL.
Buffalo Sabers as logical destination for Connor Hellebuyck
Connor Hellebuyck is another big name generating a lot of buzz. Why? Because he recently requested an exchange.
Hellebuyck appears to be more flexible with his potential destinations (unlike one Dylan Larkin), but which teams would be a logical choice for the American goaltender?
David Pagnotta believes Buffalo would welcome Hellebuyck.
Indeed, the Sabers would be a very logical destination. That’s not to say that Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is a bad goalie, but adding Hellebuyck would still be a great option. update.
For this to happen, we could see a three-team trade that would make this move easier.
I might see Alex Lyon or even UPL landed in New Jersey to support Jake Allen.
Additionally, the Sabers certainly have something interesting to offer the Jets in exchange for their star goaltender.
I can’t wait to see when these three situations are resolved.
