Police closed the M1 in both directions this morning (September 18) after a lorry overturned and landed on the central reservation barrier, transport chiefs say.
The motorway was closed in Leicestershire between junction 24 at Kegworth and junction 23A on the A42. Emergency services are at the scene of the crash, said National Highways, the organization that manages England’s motorways and main roads.
In a statement issued at around 5.30am, the organization said: “The M1 is closed in both directions between J24 (Kegworth) and J23A (A42 junction) due to an overturned lorry which came to rest on the central reservation barrier.
“Emergency services are on the scene. There’s a delay of about 30 minutes and there’s a 2-mile traffic jam on the approach.”
