Kolkata (West Bengal) [India]February 14 (ANI): Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has expressed hope that the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup group clash will be “high tension”, noting that there have been no close encounters between the two teams in the last few years.
Ganguly told ANI that India are a very good team and hoped that they will play well in other World Cup matches tomorrow.
“This (match) should be high tension. There hasn’t been high tension for the last few years. The quality of the match should be good. Hopefully that will happen tomorrow. India is a very good team, a very powerful team and we hope they will play well tomorrow. Not just tomorrow but the whole World Cup,” Ganguly said.
India has a 7-1 record against Pakistan in World Cup matches.
He said the Pakistan government’s previous decision not to host the match against India was “wrong”.
“It was a wrong decision. Cricket needs to be played, how can you miss the World Cup? It’s good that they played. It’s good for them too because losing points is not right,” he said.
Replying to a question, he said that both the teams are balanced, but India is a very strong team.
“Indian batsman Abhishek Sharma is in good form and this is very good news for India,” he said.
Sharma, who was battling a stomach infection that kept him out of the T20 World Cup match against Namibia in Delhi, was seen practicing at the nets ahead of the crucial match against Pakistan in Colombo, scheduled for Sunday.
After a golden duck in the first match of the title defense against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium, Abhishek was hospitalized due to a stomach infection, BCCI sources said. The left-hander looked unwell during the team dinner at head coach Gautam Gambhir’s residence and was the first to leave the place.
Although it is not yet officially known whether he will play or not, his presence in goal was seen as an encouraging sign. (ANI)
