Six killed in Taliban attack on Afghan intelligence office

At least six people were killed and about 40 injured Saturday in a Taliban attack on an intelligence office in eastern Afghanistan, officials said.

“The first attacker detonated an explosive device at the gate of the National Directorate of Security office in the city of Jalalabad at 5 a.m. to clear the way for his colleague,” said Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar province.

Abdulzai said the second attacker was shot dead by security guards.

“Ten civilians were injured as the incident took place in a busy area.” Sources at the provincial hospital said they had received six bodies and about 40 injured.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the intelligence office was attacked by “a large number of mujahideen.”
