The Tom Holland-led superhero film has already grossed around US$923 million domestically, putting it within striking distance of The Force Awakens, which has grossed US$936.7 million to date.The latest projections, according to Variety Australia, are that Brand New Day could become the biggest film ever released in the US and Canada. Given the current trend, the film could become the first film in domestic box office history to cross the US$1 billion mark.
“Brand New Day” Tops US$2.4 Billion Worldwide
A record-breaking domestic run and outstanding international performance helped Spider-Man: The New Pope cross the US$2.4 billion mark worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing film in global box office history behind Avatar and Avengers: Endgame.The film crossed the $2 billion mark in just three weekends, becoming only the eighth film to ever enter the exclusive club at the time. It also became the second highest-grossing film at US$2 billion, behind Avengers: Endgame.The film’s release was wonderful from the very beginning. “Brand New Day” opened with US$360 million domestically and US$932 million worldwide, and its US$72 million pre-release gross broke the previous record set by Avengers: Endgame.
Sony CEO praises film’s emotional impact
The film’s incredible box office performance also exceeded Sony’s expectations. Ravi Ahuja, chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment, told Variety: “This is an amazing result. We clearly did not predict this. We thought it would be incredibly good, but we didn’t know it would be this good,” Ahuja said at the BofA Securities 2026 Media, Communications & Entertainment conference in New York.Ahuja attributed much of the film’s success to its emotional impact, suggesting that Brand New Day connects with audiences in a way that sets it apart from many recent superhero films.All eyes are now on this weekend’s numbers to see if the film has what it takes to set a new record before it leaves theaters.
