Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay’s visit to London has sparked a political row after photographs of him at the Silverstone circuit went viral. The opposition has questioned whether the four-day trip is really about investment or a personal visit.
Opposition asks questions Photos of Silverstone
Vijay is currently in London to meet business leaders regarding investment opportunities in Tamil Nadu. Controversy arose after photographs of him with actor Trisha at the Silverstone circuit surfaced on social media. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami had earlier supported Vijay’s decision to travel abroad within 100 days of assuming office to attract investment for development and job creation.
But after pictures of Silverstone surfaced, he hit out at the chief minister. “The media has a different picture. Look at how he attracts investment,” he said sarcastically. Nainar Nagendran, president of the BJP in Tamil Nadu, also expressed concern. He asked about the chief minister’s companions and whether the trip to London was professional or personal.

BJP, DMK seek clarity on investment objectives
“There are reports that some people traveled with him. I don’t know who went or who he took with him,” Nagendran said. He inquired about the use of government funds for the trip, the investments Vijay intended to attract, the number of meetings possible over the four days and the investment commitments arising from the visit.
“If it is a personal trip, there is nothing to say. But if he went to attract investment, he should explain who he met and how much investment is expected,” he said, adding that Vijay should give details after returning to Tamil Nadu. The DMK also attacked the chief minister. DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin said people in Tamil Nadu were facing power cuts, power shortage and law and order problems. “In the history of Tamil Nadu, we have never seen a chief minister as uncivilized and as stupid as this,” Udhayanidhi said. He said that instead of addressing these issues, the chief minister made disparaging comments about himself, his party and his leader and was unable to respond to queries on government issues.
