Trump said Russia and Ukraine agreed to avoid attacks on energy infrastructure

US President Donald Trump said Russia and Ukraine had agreed to stop attacking each other’s energy infrastructure as he linked recent increases in diesel prices largely to the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war.

Trump made the announcement Monday, a day after he called on Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries and diesel infrastructure. In recent months, Ukraine has launched a series of long-range strikes on Russian energy facilities, affecting the country’s fuel production.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that Ukraine had agreed not to attack Russian energy facilities, and that Russia had agreed to do the same. However, neither Moscow nor Kyiv had independently confirmed the reported understanding at the time of publication.

Trump has repeatedly criticized Ukraine’s attacks on Russian oil infrastructure, arguing that they contribute to pressure on global fuel markets. He called on Zelensky to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries and diesel fuel supplies.

The US President also sought to distinguish the current rise in diesel prices from the conflict involving Iran. He said much of the recent rise in diesel prices was caused by the Russian-Ukrainian war, not the Iranian conflict.

The comments come as global fuel markets come under pressure from disruptions related to both the Russia-Ukraine war and the conflict involving Iran. In the United States, diesel fuel prices have risen to record levels, and supply disruptions in crude oil and refined fuels have heightened concerns about global availability.

Trump’s remarks also come amid ongoing attacks on energy infrastructure by Russia and Ukraine. Kyiv argues that attacks on Russian oil facilities are aimed at putting economic pressure on Moscow and weakening an important source of funding for its war effort.

The Kremlin welcomed Trump’s call for Ukraine to stop attacks on Russian diesel infrastructure, while emphasizing the need to protect civilian economic assets.
