The BRICS summit will take place today (September 12) in Delhi, starting at 10 am. Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in New Delhi early on Saturday for the 18th BRICS summit, which will be his first visit to India in more than six years.

President Xi Jinping plans to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss stabilizing bilateral relations, border management and trade.
The timing of Xi Jinping’s visit is significant as India and China seek to stabilize their relations after years of military standoff along the LAC.
Additionally, during the visit, President Xi Jinping will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a highly anticipated bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.
Xi Modi meeting: what will be discussed?
The meeting between Xi Jinping and Modi will no doubt touch on some of the most contentious areas of India-China relations.
China and India are preparing for a bilateral meeting between President Xi and Prime Minister Modi.
This will be the third year in a row that the two leaders have met each other, following meetings in Kazan and Tianjin.

Control of the line of actual control is one possible issue for discussion. Despite moves by both countries to disengage, significant military forces from China and India remain stationed along their nearly 3,500-kilometer border with the Himalayas.
Trade and economic issues are another important area. India has highlighted several challenges such as unequal balance of trade and market restrictions for businessmen and investors.
On the eve of Xi Jinping’s departure to India, Beijing said it was ready to exchange experiences with India by strengthening ties, expanding cooperation and overcoming differences.
First visit to India since 2019
It should be noted that Xi’s last visit to India was in 2019, when he traveled to Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu for an informal summit with Prime Minister Modi.
Therefore, his return to New Delhi is of great diplomatic significance. This followed a major military confrontation between India and China in eastern Ladakh and subsequent efforts by both countries to stabilize their relations.
Since then, the two leaders have met at international forums, including the BRICS and SCO platforms, but Xi Jinping’s physical return to India marks a notable step in bilateral cooperation.
Massive security around Xi Jinping’s hotel
Xi Jinping’s visit also triggered an unusually elaborate security operation in the nation’s capital. Authorities have imposed temporary restrictions on flights over the hotel where the Chinese president is staying.
Security teams also conduct detailed checks for possible chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats. Security measures include specialized teams, careful route planning and checks around the hotel and areas associated with Xi Jinping’s movements.
The measures are aimed at protecting the Chinese leader from possible threats, including lone attacks and demonstrations.
Xi Jinping is expected to spend about 24 hours in Delhi during the BRICS summit. He will attend the summit at the Bharat Mandapam, where leaders of the enlarged BRICS grouping gather to discuss global economic and geopolitical issues.
His bilateral meeting with Modi will be one of the most closely watched events of the summit.
