The discrepancy came to light when the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) conducted a pre-season documentation drive for its players. Rohit was immediately dropped from the U-19 squad. Rohit, who represented Bengal in the age groups, is believed to have an age difference of 27 months.
The CAB also banned 64 other participants for similar age differences. They include Ravi Kumar, a former India Under-19 World Cup winner who produced an outstanding performance in the 2022 final against England in the Caribbean.
Lakshya Raychandani will lead India U-19 in the one-day series against Australia U-19, while Yashbardhan Chauhan will be his deputy. In multi-day matches, the roles will be reversed.
Three one-day matches will take place on September 18, 21 and 23, while four-day matches will take place from September 27 to 30 and October 5 to 8. All matches, except the second four-day match in Ahmedabad, will be played in Rajkot.
