Yash-starrer Toxic: a fairy tale for adults It may not have delivered the theatrical results expected from a film of this magnitude, but its post-theatrical journey is far from over. Bollywood Hungama learned that negotiations are currently underway with streaming platforms, and the creators are exploring options for a digital release of the film.
Toxic OTT Rights: Streaming Platforms Are Discussed, But Deal Numbers Are Pure Speculation
This development comes amid widespread reports suggesting that the value ToxicDigital rights took a major hit following its theatrical release. However, there is no confirmed OTT deal or officially set figure at this stage and some of the figures circulating in the industry should be considered speculative.
This distinction is important, especially because Toxic entered the market with high expectations. The film, directed by Geethu Mohandas and starring Yash alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Tara Sutaria, Huma Qureshi and Rukmini Vasanth, was presented as a large-scale theatrical event. However, its box office performance did not live up to its expectations.
Recent reports have claimed that the earlier OTT offer was significantly higher than what platforms are currently willing to pay. Some reports even put the potential revised cost at around Rs. 30 crores. However, Bollywood Hungama understands that no such figure can be represented as a done deal at this time.
The streaming market has also become significantly more cautious of late, with platforms increasingly evaluating theatrical performances, audience reaction and the long-term value of streaming before investing large sums in films.
For ToxicSo the OTT chapter is still a work in progress. While the theatrical release may have changed the commercial conversation surrounding the film, the final streaming deal will only become clear once negotiations are completed.
This was reported by an industry source familiar with the discussions. Bollywood Hungama“While Toxic may not have performed as expected in theatrical release, the film continues to generate significant interest, especially as it premieres digitally. Negotiations are currently underway with several platforms, but a deal has not yet been concluded. It is important to note that the figures circulating in the market at this stage are purely speculative.”
For now, any specific figure being circulated should be considered an unconfirmed industry estimate and not the final value of the OTT deal.
