Charlie Kirk’s family has indicated they intend to sue several Utah authorities following the MAGA star’s murder last year.
In the new lawsuit, Kirk’s family said there was a “series of stunning failures and reckless decisions” leading up to his death on the Utah Valley University campus on Sept. 10, 2025.
The new document comes just days after the anniversary of his untimely death, which shocked the conservative world and beyond.
The founder of Turning Point USA was 31 when he was killed during an outdoor college event while answering questions from an audience of about 3,000 people as part of his organization’s return to America tour.
His alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, is awaiting trial on murder charges. If found guilty, he faces the death penalty.
Now his family claims the university failed to conduct a “meaningful risk assessment” before the event, including failing to scout rooftops near the event site from where Robinson allegedly fired.
Kirk’s family alleged that UVU police also did not have a written security plan and did not provide any security briefings before the event.
The advert, seen by the Daily Mail, said: “Through a series of stunning failures and reckless decisions, the UVU party has created a predictable danger for Charlie.”

“These decisions ultimately left Mr. Kirk helpless against the rooftop shooter in a murder that could have been avoided had UVU parties taken only reasonable steps to plan and oversee a safe event, steps outlined below that have been standard practice for other universities hosting controversial speakers,” the notice states.
The family noted that authorities in Orem, Utah, should have taken more care in planning the event given the attempted assassination of Trump by a rooftop shooter just months earlier in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“The risk posed by the rooftop shooter would have been particularly important given the attempted assassination of President Trump, a close friend and political ally of Charlie Kirk, by the rooftop shooter last year,” the notice said.
Kirk’s family criticized UVU police in the notice for sending only six campus police officers to the event, representing only 25 percent of UVU’s police force, despite more than 3,000 people attending the event.
After Kirk’s killing, prosecutors released surveillance footage of the gunman running across a rooftop toward a “sniper’s nest” before firing the fatal shot.
Kirk’s family accused UVU authorities of failing to monitor CCTV footage in real time, which they said would have allowed them to see the shooter prepare and “Kirk’s tragic death could have been avoided.”
