Layoffs at Adidas: Nearly half of the employees at the Indian Tech Center in Gurgaon have quit, says a report. Who was hurt? | Company business news

Adidas has reportedly begun large-scale layoffs at its Indian technology hub in Gurgaon, affecting around 350 or more employees.

The job cuts could reportedly affect about 45% to 50% of the hub’s workforce of about 700 employees, including software engineers, data scientists and data engineers, Wocult reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

Employees were reportedly informed of the layoffs during a town hall on Tuesday (September 15).

While Adidas has reportedly confirmed that roles are being cut, the number of employees affected has not been independently confirmed by Wocult.

Adidas confirms tech job cuts in India

Adidas, in a statement to the media company, reportedly said it has decided to cut “a number of roles” in its technology organization in India as part of efforts to align its operating model with changing business needs.

The company said the changes were aimed at simplifying parts of its organization, strengthening critical capabilities and positioning Adidas for long-term growth in a rapidly evolving business and technology environment.

“We are deeply grateful to our colleagues for their many contributions to Adidas,” the company said, adding that it will support affected employees with “care, respect and appropriate transition assistance.”

Employees are divided into two groups

Employees affected by the layoffs are divided into two groups, according to people familiar with the situation.

One group received termination letters on September 15, while the second group was asked to remain with the company until December 15 to complete the handover to colleagues at other technology centers.

Employees in the second group were also given time to find another role within the company. Those who do not receive another position by December 15 have been told that date will be their last day of work.

Details of the dismissal are unclear

The company has not publicly disclosed information about severance pay, notice payments or redeployment support for affected employees.

Wocult said it asked Adidas about the number and types of positions affected, how the layoffs were handled and what support was offered.

Adidas reportedly did not provide details on the number of employees affected or the specific positions included in the restructuring.
