– A major fire broke out at the W&S Metal Recycling site off Candice Lane in Corfe Mullen, causing a large plume of smoke to rise over the area.
– Firefighters were called at 2.35am today (Tuesday 8 September) and a major emergency response was launched.
“Ten pumping units, including two from Wimborne, as well as specialist vehicles and equipment were sent to the scene.
– Scrap metal and electrical appliances were damaged as a result of the fire, and crews used main lines and hose reel jets to fight the flames.
– A significant plume of smoke remains visible, so residents affected by smoke are advised to keep doors and windows closed.
“People have also been urged to avoid the area and only travel there if necessary while emergency services remain in place.”
– Dorset Police are on the scene assisting firefighters with traffic control.
– The A31 remains open although motorists have been warned that smoke may affect the road and are urged to drive with care.
– Firefighters from across Dorset and surrounding areas are involved in the operation, including crews from Wimborne, Blandford, Poole, Christchurch and Ringwood.
