Aldi has announced a new change coming to stores this month. The supermarket giant said it is making major changes to its Mamia baby food range to better support parents during weaning. Shoppers will start seeing the updated products in stores across the country from this month as they are rolled out in phases.
The changes are designed to make it easier for parents to find useful information when choosing food for their little ones, as well as provide clearer packaging recommendations based on age and feeding. The range update also sees Aldi adding Apple & Raspberry and Banana & Mango Corn Hearts snack products to the Mamia everyday range, suitable for children aged 12 months and over, following a successful in-store trial.
The products retail at 85p per 30g pack and are expected to go on sale across the UK this month.
The update comes ahead of new voluntary government guidance on commercial infant foods and drinks, which comes into force from February 2027. The guidelines were published by the government in August 2025 and set targets for businesses to reduce sugar and salt levels, as well as recommendations for labeling and marketing.
Businesses are encouraged to introduce clearer labeling to help parents and carers make more informed choices when purchasing food for young children. They also recommend labeling products in line with government recommendations for introducing complementary feeding at around six months, providing clear feeding instructions and avoiding misleading product names or implied health claims.
The guidance states that snacks and foods that can be eaten between meals should no longer be labeled or marketed as suitable for children under 12 months of age, as children under 12 months of age do not need snacks.
Julie Ashfield, commercial director at Aldi UK, said: “We know parents want clear, simple information when choosing food for their little ones, which is why we are updating the Mamia baby food range.
“This latest update includes clearer packaging information, updated age guidelines and feeding recommendations, and recipe improvements for individual products.
“Mummy remains dedicated to supporting families in the early years, offering great quality, everyday value and helpful advice as parents choose food for their little ones.”
