A special meeting was convened at the MCD headquarters on March 28 to discuss and review the civic budget, officials said on Saturday. According to the norms, the civil budget must be approved by March 31.
On February 15, the MCD adopted the “Tax Schedule” in the civil budget for 2023-24.
However, the remaining budget process is stalled as a standing committee of the civic body is yet to be elected.
The Delhi Municipal Corporation is “exploring options” to clear the remaining civic budget by March 31, official sources said on Friday.
An MCD statement on Saturday said that a special meeting of the MCD on budget proposals for the revised estimates for 2022-23 and 2023-24 will be held on Tuesday at the Arun Asaf Ali Assembly Hall at 2 pm.
Earlier, the MCD had also asked the Delhi government to allow it to convene a special session to finalize the budget before the end of March.
If the entire budget is not passed by March 31, the situation could “fall into limbo,” the source said on Friday.
The allocations made to the various departments of the civil budget are key to the proper functioning of civil society.
The “tax schedule” was approved by a special officer of the MCD, whose office ceased to exist after the elections of the mayor of Delhi.
The taxes, rates and fees to be levied in 2023-24 will remain the same as today, MCD said in a statement on February 15.
The municipal commissioner presented the MCD budget in December and included revised estimates for 2022-23 and budget estimates for 2023-24, an official source said.
