According to Jack Gold, principal analyst at J. Gold Associates, all major artificial intelligence model vendors are looking for ways to make their products more relevant to client organizations. Some have targeted coding agents, while others, especially Microsoft and Google, have assistants and artificial intelligence agents that connect to existing office productivity tools.

For example, Microsoft Copilot is built into the Office suite, although users can also create documents directly from the Microsoft 365 Copilot chat interface.

“Microsoft and Google are driving AI deeper into established productivity environments, and Anthropic is bringing more capabilities to AI productivity environments,” said Maria Bell, senior analyst at FDM CCS Insight. “Over time, competition may cease to become the primary interface through which knowledge workers do their work.”

Early results from FDM CCS Insight’s 2026 Workplace Technology Survey show that about half of employees who use generative AI at work do so to create or edit reports and documents.

Analysts say it’s unlikely that Claude’s built-in document editing features will lead to a major shift away from Microsoft or Google productivity products.
