Box office collection of the film “Batvara 1947”, fifth day: Sunny Deol’s period drama Batwara 1947 is struggling to gain traction at the box office. Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, Partition stars Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi and Karan Deol as well as Sunny Deol and is supported by Aamir Khan. Despite a large cast and strong support, the film failed to make a serious impression at the box office. After five days in theatres, Batwara 1947 is hovering around the Rs 30 crore mark in India.

The film opened on Friday on a budget of Rs 5.75 crore, according to Sacnilk. The collections increased significantly on Saturday as the film earned Rs 13.50 crore. However, the momentum did not last long. The film collected Rs 7.25 crore on Sunday, which is about 22% lower than its Saturday earnings.
The film’s weekday showing was even more disappointing. After a lukewarm opening weekend, Batwara 1947 earned Rs 2 crore on its opening Monday.
There was a slight improvement on Tuesday with the film collecting Rs 2.25 crore. The growth was somewhat expected as several multiplexes offer discounted tickets on Tuesdays. Tuesday’s collection marks a 12.5% increase from Monday.
Despite having 6,608 screenings, the film failed to attract large numbers of audiences to theatres. Based on Tuesday’s figures, Batwara 1947 has collected Rs 30.75 crore in India. Its India gross currently stands at Rs 36.54 crore and its worldwide gross has reached Rs 43.29 crore.

The film’s budget is reported to be around Rs 120 crore. So far, it has only recouped about 24.5% of its reported budget, leaving the film with a significant gap to cover before it can come close to profitability.
With weekday collections remaining weak, Batwara 1947 will need a major turnaround in the coming days to improve its box office prospects.
