India beat Pakistan in Women’s T20 World Cup 2026; PTV switches to FIFA match mid-game

PTV has drawn the ire of Pakistani fans after it changed the live coverage of the T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan to Germany’s game in Curacao in the World Cup.

India began their 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign with a convincing 64-run win over Pakistan at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday, with Smriti Mandhana’s elegant half-century and Richie Ghosh’s explosive finishing with the bat setting up a total that Pakistan never looked like chasing.

The last two overs produced 38 runs with Richa Ghosh scoring 34 runs off just 17 balls, taking the total well beyond Pakistan’s reach.

Deepti Sharma was the architect of the collapse, claiming five wickets for just 10 runs in four overs, considered the best bowling performance by any Indian woman in international T20 cricket.

She also intervened by hitting a straight shot during Pakistan’s innings to further slow down the chase. World Cup debutant Shri Charani took two wickets to complete a comprehensive victory over Pakistan.

PTV, which owns the rights to broadcast both the Women’s T20 World Cup and the Pakistan 2026 World Cup, has reportedly stopped broadcasting the India-Pakistan cricket match as Pakistan’s innings began to crumble and replaced it with coverage of the FIFA World Cup group stage match against Curacao in Germany.

The channel switch quickly sparked outrage on social media, with a video by Pakistani YouTuber Furqan Bhati going viral.

“What is this? Why did they switch to a FIFA match? Is this a live broadcast? Why did PTV switch to a FIFA match?

“What’s happening? What’s happening? The Pakistan-India match is taking place there and they are broadcasting the World Cup match. Whose match is this? Germany? Is Germany located in Punjab? Is it in Sindh, Balochistan or KPK? Where is Germany?

“PTV Sports, go drown yourself! Shame on you! This is our national channel and it doesn’t even broadcast the Pakistan-India match. And our tax money goes to these PTV people. PTV, you wasted our match, wasted our money. All the taxes we paid to PTV were wasted by them today. Was Alia Riaz fired? We missed it.”
