After five seasons of Deborah Vance’s characters (Gene Smart) and Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) oscillating between tension and friendship, the fan-favorite series ended in May with a finale befitting its hilarious, heartwarming Emmy Award-winning series.
However HBO Max the series returns to the Emmy Awards for the final time on September 14, racking up a record 24 nominations this year, the most for a comedy ever.

After the episode began with Ava directing the pilot of her new comedy show and Deborah opening her new casino, the mood suddenly shifted toward a more complex conversation with Deborah, who revealed that her cancer had spread.
Instead of seeking treatment, she tells Ava that she plans to visit an assisted suicide clinic in Europe. Ava – in an emotional performance – spends the entire episode trying to talk her boss-turned-best friend out of her decision.
