Manchester City appeared to mock Manchester United with a social media post citing a famous Reds fan. City emerged victorious from the Manchester derby on Sunday with a 1-0 win over United at Old Trafford.
Erling Haaland scored the only goal of the game in a dramatic Premier League clash at the weekend as City took all three points to continue their 100% start to the campaign.
However, there was controversy over the goal, with Haaland’s strike initially ruled out for offside but only allowed after a VAR check.
Pro Ref later released a statement saying a “mistake” had been made in allowing Haaland’s goal to be scored given Enzo Fernandez was in an offside position.

Almost immediately after the final whistle, a post appeared on the official City X account that appeared to ridicule United.
The message read: “Five wins in a row” and included a scissors emoji and an eyes emoji.
This appears to be the case with famous United fan Frank Ilett, who has vowed not to cut his hair until United win five games in a row.
Following the controversy, Pro Ref issued a statement admitting that a “mistake” had been made in the review of Haaland’s goal.

“Following an incident in the 60th minute of Sunday’s Premier League match between Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford, we can provide an explanation regarding Erling Haaland’s goal,” a spokesman for Pro Ref said.
“The decision on the pitch was for offside against Erling Haaland – this was checked by VAR and he was onside. In the same attack, Enzo Fernandez was ruled to have not played the ball and therefore makes any offside offense subjective, however in this case the VAR did not recognize the likely impact of his position and should have recommended an on-field check.
“Contact has been made with Manchester United this evening to acknowledge what we consider to be an error in judgement. A review of the incident will be carried out.”
