Premier League clubs break transfer record with €3.46 billion spent on new players

Premier League clubs have continued their record spending this summer, with clubs collectively spending £3.46 billion (around ₹38,042 crore) on new players.

This record comfortably beats the previous record of £3.14 billion set last summer. A new record was set on deadline day when Manchester City spent £60 million on Everton striker Iliman Ndiaye. Manchester City then broke the record again by signing Enzo Fernandez for £125 million.

Premier League clubs have collectively spent a record £3.46 billion on signing new players this summer, surpassing last year’s record of £3.14 billion. Manchester City spent the most, spending £458m, including the £125m signing of Enzo Fernandes from Chelsea.

On deadline day, clubs collectively spent £475m on new arrivals, compared with £391m on the final day of last year’s summer window.

Manchester City top spender at £458m

Manchester City became the biggest sponsor of the window, shelling out £458 million on new players.

Among their record-breaking moves:

  • Enzo Fernandez – £125 million – from Chelsea to Manchester City
  • Elliot Anderson – £116m – from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City
  • Iliman Ndiaye – £60m – Everton to Manchester City

Manchester City received around £304 million in revenue from player sales, helping to mitigate their record £458 million.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham make important moves

Chelsea also spent a lot of money in the summer window, with around £349 million spent on new signings.

They signed Morgan Rodgers from Aston Villa for around £117 million but received around £382 million in income from the players they sold, meaning they made a £33 million profit on their spending.

Liverpool have made one of the most expensive signings of the summer in Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain.

Although the initial value of the deal is £106 million, it could potentially rise to £123 million depending on additional terms of the deal.

Tottenham also spent a lot of money during the summer, with the club spending around £302 million on new players during the window.

Premier League dominates world’s biggest transfers

Record deals have contributed to the list of the most expensive football transfers of all time.

Three of the ten most expensive transfers in football history occurred this summer, while four of the five most expensive transfers in Premier League history were completed in the summer window.

Their spending was higher than Manchester United’s (£148 million) and even better than Barcelona, ​​Milan, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

Ipswich’s record spending spree is a reminder that the Premier League is big business in world football, with even new clubs getting into the spending spree.

11 clubs broke transfer records

This wasn’t just your average big six record-breaking spenders. In fact, eleven clubs broke their own transfer spending records during the window, with six clubs doing so more than once.

Coventry City became the most successful record holders, breaking their record four times before finally spending £23.1 million to sign Caleb Jirenka, their most expensive player ever.

With a combined £3.46bn spent, record transfer fees across the board driving up prices, and record sales revenues, the latest record summer spending window serves as a reminder that the Premier League is the world leader in top-flight football.
