The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Thursday suspended an assistant engineer and two junior engineers of its construction department for alleged dereliction of duty and negligence in taking action against unauthorized construction, officials said.
The Delhi Municipal Corporation on Thursday suspended three engineers for negligence over unauthorized construction following Monday’s suspension of a deputy commissioner and four others after the Satya Niketan building collapse killed seven people.
This comes after the Corporation on Monday suspended South Zone Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rakesh Kumar and four engineers pending disciplinary proceedings after a multi-storey building housing paying guest accommodation in Satya Niketan collapsed, killing seven people, including five students, and injuring seven.
Following Thursday’s action, seven engineers and one DC have been suspended. Ravinder Kumar, an assistant engineer posted in South West zone, erstwhile Najafgarh zone, and junior engineers Suman Saurabh and Mohit Yadav from the same zone were suspended on Thursday, according to an MCD statement.
The suspension comes amid an intensifying crackdown by the civic body on unauthorized and dangerous buildings across Delhi following the collapse of the Satya Niketan building.
The MCD said negligence by officials regarding unauthorized construction will not be tolerated and directed officers on the ground to remain vigilant and take timely action against violations.
