September 1, 2026 will bring several changes that households, taxpayers and travelers should be aware of.

There are also several tax and GST payment deadlines this month, and international passengers leaving India will see changes at immigration counters. LPG, petrol and diesel prices will also be closely watched, but consumers should wait for official announcements before factoring any changes into their budgets.

The changes, which come into effect from September 1, 2026, include Mumbai milk priced at Rs 102 per litre, deadlines for filing tax returns and the removal of stamps on boarding passes for departing international passengers. The revised RBI deposit rules will come into effect on October 1, 2026.

September 1 changes Mumbai milk prices, tax hike timing, airport changes and more

Tabela milk in Mumbai will cost Rs 102 per liter

Fresh tabela milk in Mumbai will cost Rs 102 per liter from September 1, up from Rs 93. Milk producers have increased the price by Rs 9 per liter.

For a family buying one liter of water per day, the increase will add about Rs 270 to their monthly expenses. Households purchasing larger quantities will see larger increases.

The trek is limited to tabela milk. Prices for packaged milk are determined separately by dairy companies and cooperatives and cannot change.

Prices for liquefied petroleum gas, gasoline and diesel fuel

Liquefied petroleum gas prices are revised periodically by oil marketing companies, including around the beginning of the month. Any changes in September must be confirmed by an official announcement.

Consumers should also check the latest petrol and diesel prices rather than relying on reports or unofficial price lists. Changes in aircraft turbine fuels can affect airline operating costs, although they do not necessarily result in an immediate change in airline fares.

Important tax deadlines in September

Taxpayers, professionals and businesses have several deadlines to keep track of in September.

TDS and TCS for August must be deposited by September 7th. Eligible taxpayers have until September 11 to file GSTR-1 and the second installment of advance tax is due on September 15.

GSTR-3B return is due on September 20 for eligible taxpayers. September 30 is also an important deadline for meeting various audit and compliance requirements.

The exact deadline may vary depending on the taxpayer category, so businesses and individuals should check the official tax portals for applicable requirements.

RBI Fixed Deposit Rules Commence October

Fixed deposit investors should note that the Reserve Bank of India’s revised system of interest rates on bank deposits will not come into effect from September 1.

The new system will come into force on October 1, 2026. It includes provisions covering large deposits of Rs 3 crore and above, as well as requiring banks to publish applicable interest rates on such deposits.

Regular retail FD investors do not need to take any immediate action due to these changes.

International passengers will not need a stamp on their boarding pass

From September 1, international passengers flying out of India will no longer need to stamp their boarding passes at immigration counters.

Officials quoted by PTI said passengers can show their electronic boarding passes on their smartphones during immigration clearance. Those who have physical boarding passes can continue to use them.

The change removes one step from the departure process, but passengers will still need a passport, visa and other documents required for international travel.
