The BBC visited a West Bank village in an area earmarked for settlement by Israel.

UK sanctions on illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank have prompted a series of Israeli retaliatory measures against UK citizens and organizations.

The sanctions were imposed after Israel announced tenders for the construction of settlement houses in the strategically important so-called E1 area east of Jerusalem. The plans drew widespread international condemnation.

Essentially, this event will split the West Bank in two and isolate East Jerusalem.

BBC Middle East correspondent Lucy Williamson visited the Palestinian community of Khan al-Ahmar in area E1, as well as the neighboring Israeli settlement of Ma’ale Admumim.
