The popular British shoe chain is preparing to permanently close 17 stores, with closing sales currently underway at affected branches. Wynsors World of Shoes is closing stores across England as it downsizes its store footprint.
Shoppers have been offered big discounts as stores try to clear out stock, with discounts on everything from trainers and boots to children’s shoes and accessories. At the Crewe branch, shoppers can currently get up to 60% off hiking boots and up to 50% off other footwear.
Wynsors in Gateshead is also offering significant discounts, including 50% off baby bags, some of which can be purchased for as little as £3. Girls’ boots have been reduced by 40%.
Meanwhile, shoppers at the Rochdale branch were treated to an ‘everything must have’ sale with discounts of up to 50%.
The closure comes after Wynsors’ private equity owner, Modella Capital, warned earlier this summer of job cuts and changes at its stores.
Exact dates for the 17 branches’ closures have yet to be confirmed.
Wynsors previously said: “It is with sadness that we announce that some Wynsors stores will be closing their doors.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to all our customers who have shopped with us and supported the store over the years. Your support means a lot to the entire team.”
The list of 17 stores to close includes Crewe, Leeds, Sheffield, Wakefield, Fleetwood, Burnley, Oldham, Salford, Bury, Rochdale, Hanley, Birkenhead, Bootle, Bacup, Bolton, Gateshead and Sunderland.
The closures come in another difficult year for Britain’s high streets, with a number of high-profile retailers downsizing their stores.
Wynsors continues to trade in its remaining stores and online.
