The Center is recreating the CBFC; Preity Zinta, Pankaj Tripathi among 18 participants

The Center on Wednesday reconstituted the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), adding actors Preity Zinta, Pankaj Tripathi, Suniel Shetty and Prosenjit Chatterjee, director Priyadarshan and Grammy Award-winning musician Ricky Kedge to the 18-member panel.

The new board, headed by CBFC Chairman Shashi Shekhar Vempati, has been constituted with immediate effect for three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The CBFC was last reconstituted in August 2017 for a period of three years. Members of this council continued to serve beyond 2020, in the absence of a new reorganization, under provisions allowing them to remain in office until their successors were appointed.

The new panel also includes film critic Vinod Anupam, actor Manoj Joshi, director Abhishek Jain, singer and former parliamentarian Hans Raj Hans, producer Supriya Yarlagadda, poet and writer Yatindra Mishra and actor Rupali Ganguly.

Theater director Vaman Kendre and writer Ramesh Patange are the only two members of the previous board who remain in the new composition.

The outgoing board includes actor Vidya Balan, director Vivek Agnihotri, former footballer Mihir Bhutia, actor Gautami Tadimalla, Vani Tripathi Tiku, actor Jevitha Rajasekhar, director T.S. Nagabharana and director Naresh Chandra Lal, besides Kendra and Patange.

Pallavi Joshi is Agnihotri’s wife. She was among the producers and actors Kashmir files Directed by Agnihotri. On the other hand, Ganguly formally joined the BJP in 2024.
