LONDON (AP) — U.S. Open runner-up Ben Shelton has withdrawn from the Laver Cup and will be replaced by 16th-ranked Brandon Nakashima on the world team, organizers announced Thursday.
No reason was given for Shelton’s withdrawal, but he is scheduled to play in the Davis Cup for the United States in the Czech Republic starting Friday – less than a week after losing to Alexander Zverev in the US Open final.
Shelton moved up to fourth in the rankings after his first Grand Slam final.

This will be Nakashima’s Laver Cup debut. He joins Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, Alexander Bublik, Lerner Tien and Francisco Cerundolo on Team World, captained by Andre Agassi.
Yannick Noah’s Team Europe includes Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Flavio Cobolli, Raphael Jodar, Jakub Mensik and Kasper Ruud.
The Laver Cup, modeled after the Ryder Cup, will take place at the O2 Arena in London from 25-27 September.
