Warren Buffett is stepping down as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway after more than 50 years in the position.
The company said Friday that Buffett, 96, will become chairman emeritus and will begin his new role immediately. His son Howard will become the new chairman of Berkshire Hathaway. Howard Buffett has been a member of the Berkshire Hathaway board of directors since 1993.
Warren Buffett will remain director. He has served as chairman of Berkshire Hathaway since 1970.
Buffett stepped down as the company’s CEO late last year. He was replaced by Greg Abel.
