Who is Kalyan Bainsla? What do we know about the accused in the Gurugram hit-and-run case?

Kalyan Bainsla, the man allegedly involved in a hit-and-run at a golf course in Gurugram, has come under scrutiny after a video of a car hitting a woman biker went viral on social media. The incident took place on Sunday morning and involved a woman biker named Sia, who alleged that passengers of a Maruti Ciaz followed and chased her before the car hit her bike and fled.

The Gurugram police took cognizance of the viral video and registered an FIR at the Sector 56 police station, although the victim had not filed a written complaint at that time.

Sia, who runs the Instagram page “rebelwheels_sia_”, was riding her Aprilia RS 457 with members of her cycling group when she said a car started following her.

According to her, passengers repeatedly tried to approach her motorcycle. She said she signaled to them to keep a safe distance, but they allegedly continued their behavior and asked her to stop.

Sia also stated that the men in the car were intoxicated. Talking about the incident, Siya’s brother said that she initially thought that she had developed body pain after the accident.

“The incident happened yesterday morning. We didn’t tell the parents at home, although they felt something had happened to her. She initially attributed her discomfort to body pain from the gym.”

He said Sia called him shortly after the incident.

“She called me first when the accident happened. She said it was an accident. At first I thought she slipped. Then she explained it was a hit-and-run.”

According to her brother, Sia told him that someone was following her and making offensive gestures.

“You must have seen the video; she was signaling to them to keep their distance. However, they rolled down the window and made very offensive gestures. There were four people in the car and they were all drunk.”

He said the incident happened between 7.30 and 8am and that Sia was still dealing with the emotional fallout from the incident.

The collision was recorded by an action camera mounted on her motorcycle. The footage shows the car moving towards the biker before hitting him, before he crashes onto the road and the car drives away.

Sia’s motorcycle was also damaged in the incident.

A friend who was driving behind her reportedly followed the car and tried to stop it. According to Sia, the car later stopped at a traffic light, where her friend collided with the driver. She claimed the driver denied responsibility for the collision before driving away.

The Gurugram Police said its social media monitoring team came across the video on September 14 and immediately took note of the incident.

Gurugram ACP Abhilaksh Joshi said, “On September 14, 2026, our social media monitoring team intercepted a video of a woman driver of a two-wheeler being hit from behind by a four-wheeler. This incident took place on Golf Feed Road; the Gurugram Police contacted the woman involved and, taking suo motu notice, registered an FIR at Sector 56 Police Station, Gurugram.”

He said the police were tracking the accused through the vehicle involved in the incident.

“As for the identity of the accused, details regarding this vehicle are currently being ascertained, the woman will also be involved in the investigation, and further action will be taken based on the facts revealed.”

Joshi said the police will also look into the woman’s allegations and take action based on the findings of the investigation.

Police said no written statement had been received from the victim at that time. However, after seeing the video suo motu, it was decided to file a case.

“The accused will be identified and apprehended at the earliest and strictest legal action will be taken against all those involved,” the Gurugram Police said.

The police also warned against disseminating unverified information on the case.

Kalyan Bainsla has been identified as the man allegedly involved in the incident. According to information available on his social media profile, Bainsla described himself as an “international kabaddi player” and a member of the “Indian rugby team.”

He also claimed to have won the Indian Amateur Olympia bodybuilding tournament. These statements could not be independently verified.

There have been several posts on his Instagram account showing him working out and showing off his physique. He had quite a following on the platform.

The account has since been deactivated.

Police have yet to formally establish full details of Bainsla’s alleged involvement and investigations are ongoing.

The Maruti Ciaz involved in the incident is said to be owned by an army officer named Manish, a resident of Palwal in Haryana.

Manish denies that he was driving when the incident occurred. He said he was on duty in Assam and that a friend had borrowed his family’s car on Sunday.

Kartar Poshwal, who identified the car as belonging to his nephew, also said that the family had nothing to do with the incident.

“Yes, this is my nephew’s car. He is in the army and his friend borrowed it. Kalyan Baisla from Tikri Gurjar took it and subsequently caused the accident. We have nothing to do with it.”

Poshwal said the family has not yet returned the vehicle.

“The car hasn’t even been returned yet and we couldn’t find it. The police did come and recorded the details. We have no information about where the accused is.”

The video quickly went viral on social media with users tagging Gurugram Police, Delhi Police, Haryana Police and Gurugram Traffic Police and demanding action.

The incident has also renewed concerns over road safety and alleged rash driving in Gurugram.

Sia noted in her post that the episode made her feel unsafe on city roads.

“I have nothing to say, but today I felt unsafe on the roads of Gurugram. Such people are not afraid of hitting people and running away.”

Her brother said the family is pursuing further legal action. He said that their lawyer has spoken to the SHO in Gurugram regarding the next steps and that the family will also file an FIR on their behalf.

Meanwhile, NDTV visited a gym associated with Bainsla. The property owner said the property had been vacated approximately two months earlier following a rent dispute that was subsequently resolved.

The police investigation is currently focused on identifying and locating those believed to be involved in the incident, as well as establishing what exactly happened before, during and after the collision.
